Grant Funding

As Australia’s only dedicated mental health research foundation, we exist to support ground breaking research that will help to transform the lives of those affected by mental health issues.

Breakthrough research grants will support a broad range of mental health research ideas, with a focus on the following areas:

Our passion is to work in collaboration with the best researchers, which is why our grants are awarded through partnership arrangements with specialist universities, who match fund our research investments. This way, we are able to maximise the vital donations provided by our supporters. Previously, our grants have supported seed projects, three-year PhD Scholarships and three-year Fellowship projects. Read more about the exciting work we have supported here.

At present, we work with The Mental Health and Wellbeing Institute at Flinders University, University of South Australia (Uni SA), South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), and the Mind and Brain Centre at Sydney University.

If you wish to explore developing a Collaborative Research Investment partnership with Breakthrough or for more information, please contact John Mannion, CEO at Breakthrough, by emailing researchgrants@breakthroughfoundation.org.au.

All research is reviewed by Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation’s independent Research Committee, ensuring that the work we support rapidly advances our ability to help create a life free from mental illness.
