What would we do without the amazing people in our community?

Breakthrough is so lucky to be surrounded and supported by such wonderful people, and we are forever grateful for everything they do for us. Not only do they help us raise funds for mental health research, but they help us spread the word about why research is so important, while forming friendships along the way.

‘DOING IT FOR DIPPA’ LENNY’S SHEARATHON

Kangaroo Island’s Lenny Deacon took shearing to another level when he hosted his 24-hour straight ‘ Shearathon’ in February. He and mate Declan Hardy Corby took hold of the shears in honour of their friend Simon ‘Dippa’ Wheaton who lost his life to mental illness.

Over $45,000 was raised over the 24 hours which will go directly to mental health research. What an amazing effort – go Lenny!

THE LAUNCH OF BEATS FOR WU: LUKASZ FOUNDATION

Family and friends of Adelaide student Lukasz ensured he was remembered for his love of music and people on what would have been his 21st birthday in February to launch Beats for Wu: Lukasz Foundation.

Breakthrough is proud to be working with Beats for Wu to raise money for youth mental health initiatives that support trauma through music therapy. The night raised more than $12,000 in memory of Lukasz and his girlfriend Chelsea, who both tragically died in 2020.

TARIQ ELTAHIR: T’S 1000KMS FOR MENTAL HEALTH

Tariq undertook a gruelling bike ride from Adelaide to Melbourne in December, along with his mum, in aid of mental health research. “ Something that is close to home for me personally, which has led me to understanding that some need a little extra help and support in these battles,” said Tariq.

There were no support vehicles, they camped out every night and carried their equipment with them for the whole ride, raising more than $5000!
