What's involved

The Biggest Backyard Cricket Tournament is a full-day experience with teams taking part in a round-robin T10 competition on Adelaide Oval, with the top two teams battling it out in a grand final on the centre wicket.

Teams will compete in two groups of five, with each side playing four rounds each.

Each round will feature four matches played simultaneously across multiple pitches on Adelaide Oval, creating a festival atmosphere of continuous cricket action.

Only two teams will make it to the tournament’s showcase decider, battling it out in a grand final played alongside South Australian cricket legends on the iconic centre wicket at Adelaide Oval. You’ll get to play on the same stage as Australian cricket legends like Travis Head and Ricky Ponting have made history.

The opportunity to play on the iconic Adelaide Oval is available for $10,000 per team. All funds raised through the Biggest Backyard Cricket Bash fund life-changing mental health and cancer research.

A gourmet BBQ lunch and refreshments will be provided throughout the day by Adelaide Oval.

The Biggest Backyard Cricket Tournament is a full-day cricket experience hosted at Adelaide Oval, featuring 10 teams competing in a fast-paced round-robin T10 competition across multiple pitches.

Teams will be split into two ‘pools’ of five.
Each team will play four round-robin matches throughout the day, with matches played simultaneously across Adelaide Oval to create a festival-style atmosphere of continuous cricket action.
All matches will be played in a T10 (10 overs) format, delivering fast-paced and exciting cricket throughout the day. Each team bats for a max of 10 overs (60 legal balls).
A short break of about 10 minutes occurs between innings. 
If scores are level, a ‘Super Over’ is played to determine the winner.
No individual bowler can bowl more than two overs in a single innings.
A maximum of 2 overs per bowler.

The top-performing team from each ‘pool’ will advance to the tournament’s grand final match on the iconic centre wicket at Adelaide Oval. The final game is also a ten over format, and finalists will be asked to play with proper cricket gear. 

Yes. South Australian cricket legends will be involved in the grand final experience, giving participants the opportunity to share the field with some of the state’s cricketing greats.

Each game is 90 minutes.

09.00am: First matches commence
16.00pm: Grand Final Commences
17.30pm: End of Grand Final
17.45pm: Presentations. Tournament ends. 

Yes. A gourmet BBQ lunch and refreshments will be provided by Adelaide Oval throughout the event day.

Yes. Supporters and guests are welcome to attend and enjoy the festival atmosphere across Adelaide Oval.

Players should bring appropriate clothing and footwear, a broad-brimmed or bucket hat and sunglasses. SPF 50 or 50+ sunscreen will be provided on the day.

Teams are encouraged to register 10 players per team.

Event organisers will communicate any schedule changes or contingency plans directly to participating teams if weather impacts play.
