Nova Breakfast Show Host ‘Hayesy’ takes on 50K run to support mental health research

On Friday 28 November, Nova 919 Breakfast presenter Andrew “Hayesy” Hayes will take on an extraordinary challenge, running 50 kilometres to raise funds for Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation.

Broadcasting live with co-host Jodie Oddy, from Glenelg from 6 am, Hayesy will start his run at 8 am, covering a route between Glenelg and Seacliff (around 5 times).  The challenge is expected to finish between 1 and 2 pm, depending on pace and conversations along the way.

Inspired by the statistics on mental health in Australia, Hayesy is determined to make a difference. One in five Australians experiences a mental health issue, and each day nine Australians die by suicide, seven of them men. His 50K Friday run aims to raise vital funds for mental health research and help normalise conversations about mental health, particularly among men.

Breakthrough CEO John Mannion said the initiative reflects the power of lived experience and community leadership in breaking stigma.

When someone like Hayesy steps up to share his story and turn it into action, it sends a powerful message of hope. Every kilometre he runs helps fund vital research to prevent mental illness and save lives.  We are so grateful for his energy and support.” John said.

Donations can be made through the Breakthrough fundraising page. All proceeds will support Breakthrough’s mission to create a life free from mental illness, funding groundbreaking research to uncover causes, improve treatments, and drive prevention.
