Discussions on the psychological impacts of living with sickle cell disease
Breakthrough was honoured to be invited by Mwewa Chisenga President of the Australian Sickle Cell Advocacy – South Australia (ACA-SA) for a powerful and timely conversation on 5EBI 103.1FM earlier this month.
Our CEO, John Mannion, was invited to speak about the often-overlooked psychological impacts of living with sickle cell disease—highlighting the mental health challenges associated with chronic illness and the vital need for integrated care.
The interview offered a meaningful platform to discuss the emotional toll of long-term treatment, the burden of stigma, and the critical role of community and support networks.
We are grateful to ACA-SA for the opportunity to contribute to this important dialogue. Together, we can continue to empower communities and advocate for better mental health outcomes for all.
