Following the incredible success of this year’s Breakthrough Community Round, supported by Fleurieu Milk, we will now be launching an inaugural Breakthrough Community Summer Round.

Despite the challenges that COVID-19 presented to sporting clubs throughout the 2020 season, we had more than 60 registered clubs across a number of different leagues including football, rugby, netball, tennis and soccer.

The combined efforts of the incredible fundraising of the teams saw more than $23,000 raised to fund vital mental health research.

And due to popular demand, we will be launching the Breakthrough Summer Round in February 2021 and encourage summer sporting leagues and teams to get in contact with us to take part.

Clubs don their purple and blue armbands to raise awareness and much needed funds for mental health research.

Sporting clubs are trusted voices in their communities and are an ideal vehicle to drive the message about mental health awareness and the need for research to help tackle mental illness head on.

With one in five Australians diagnosed with a mental health issue and more people aged between 15-44 years dying from suicide than any other cause – it is imperative we support groundbreaking research to better understand what causes mental illness, how to treat it, and how to prevent it from happening.

Mental illness doesn’t discriminate – and that includes sporting communities. Players, teammates, coaches, support staff and volunteers as well as our friends and family on the sidelines.
