Refund policy

1. Introduction

1.1 Policy Statement

Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation (Breakthrough) accepts all donations in good faith to fulfill our vision of creating a life free from mental illness. Whilst we understand that everyone has different preferences regarding donations and that sometimes it is not convenient to give, we will not refund a donation that has been knowingly and voluntarily given to us.

Once you have donated to Breakthrough, we cannot issue refunds if you change your mind. For this reason, we ask that you make your decision to donate to us carefully, however, please note the following for refund considerations:

  • We will refund donations, if there was an error made by Breakthrough, one of our representatives or our financial institution
  • We may refund if the donor entered the wrong amount
  • We may refund if there are exceptional circumstances
  • We will refund donations to the same account or card where the original donation was made

2. Procedures

2.1 What you should do

You have up to 30 days to notify Breakthrough of any errors and make a refund request in writing.

You can request a refund in writing via email or mail to:
Email: info@breakthroughfoundation.org.au
Post: Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation
PO Box 1031
Adelaide, SA, 5000

2.2 What to Include

Please include details of your original donation including:

  • your full name (or the name used on your credit card)
  • the donation date/s
  • the donation amount/s
  • your receipt number/s, and
  • the nature of the error made
  • a receipt and/or remittance advice for proof of the donation made and account or card details to process the refund to

2.3 What happens next

Breakthrough will review your refund request and let you know the outcome within 5 business days.

If your refund is approved, your original tax receipt becomes void and a new receipt will be issued (where applicable). If a donation is refunded, the associated tax receipt is no longer valid so it should be securely destroyed. Please note it is your responsibility to submit only correct receipts to the Australian Taxation Office.

2.4 Refund terms and conditions

Breakthrough reserves the right to deduct any bank fees, transaction charges or processing fees from the refunded amount, unless and error has occurred by Breakthrough, one of our representatives or our financial institution.

Where refund requests are received more than 30 days after the transaction, Breakthrough regrets that we will not refund any amount, unless an error has occurred by Breakthrough, one of our representatives or our financial institution. Donations can only be refunded to the same account and by the payment method the donation was made.

Should an error ever be made by Breakthrough, our financial institution(s), platform partners or suppliers, a full refund will be made immediately upon notification of the error and investigation, with processing costs borne by us.

All decisions on refunds will be at the discretion of Breakthrough’s management. If at any time you disagree with a decision that has been made regarding your refund request, a formal complaint can be lodged.
