Mental illness continues to be the biggest health challenge of our lifetime.
We know that further investment in research is needed to unlock the answers to some of the most important questions such as why does it happen? And more importantly, how can we stop it?
In 2020, Breakthrough commissioned an independent report to determine how we can help address those questions. The report identified the need to build on the strength of research to support both current and future generations with respect to four key areas of focus: youth mental health, Aboriginal mental health, eating disorders and depression.
By supporting innovative, high-quality and collaborative research in those areas that focus on prevention, early intervention and treatment of mental illness across the life span, we can ensure that all investments into mental health research are utilised to maximise their impact and help create outcomes that transform the lives of those living with a mental illness.
