Whether you’re working on the land, in town, or behind the scenes, rural life can bring unique pressures—and it can also bring incredible strength. These free community events are a chance to pause, connect, and walk away with practical tools to support your mental health and wellbeing.

Hosted in partnership with Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation and local services.

Each session will include:
● A shared lunch or dinner
● Real, honest conversations about mental health and what it looks like in rural communities
● Insight into how stress affects our body and brain
● A down-to-earth workshop with psychologist and farmer Steph Schmidt, exploring the “Fill Your Silo” concept—what drains us, what fills us, and how to look after ourselves in tough seasons
● A take-home wellbeing resource pack
● Conversation and connection with others in your community

Steph Schmidt

Steph is a clinical psychologist, farmer, mum of three, and founder of Farm Life Psych. Living and working on a sheep and cropping farm in South Australia, Steph understands firsthand the pressures and joys of rural life. She’s passionate about making mental health strategies accessible and practical for rural communities, with a focus on strengthening resilience, relationships, and wellbeing.

Sharn Elder

Sharn is the Community Education and Training Manager at Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation. Sharn has over 25 years’ experience in the for-profit corporate and not-for profit sector working across multiple senior leadership roles. She also has a lived experience with mental illness and is extremely passionate about helping and empowering others.
