Where Our Work Matters Most

As Breakthrough has grown and strengthened its position, we are gaining clarity on where our work matters most and where we create measurable impact. This year reflects stronger partnerships, focused research and deeper community engagement that moves us closer to our vision to create a life free from mental illness.

Our work is now shaped by three pillars.

We research to better understand and prevent mental illness.

We connect communities so people feel supported and less alone.

We educate individuals, workplaces and leaders with tools that encourage early support and reduce harm.

These pillars are reflected across our refreshed branding, this report’s design and the stories we share.

In 2025 we strengthened our research leadership. Little Heroes Professor Bridianne O’Dea has expanded our focus on youth mental health and depression, and Research Fellow Dr Ian Zajac is leading work in men’s mental health and suicide prevention. Their expertise ensures our research addresses areas of urgent need and delivers practical outcomes for families and communities.

A major milestone this year was our partnership with the South Australian Government through PIRSA. Funding from the $73 million dollar Drought Support Package is enabling us to reach rural communities with mental health education and wellbeing programs, supporting those most affected by drought.

This report also reflects the dedication of our donors, researchers, educators, clinicians, advocates, and partners. Their commitment shows that every action contributes to saving lives.

Thank you for supporting work that strengthens communities and builds a foundation for better mental health for future generations.
